CaseAware Technical Bulletin
PHP? End of lifecycles? LINUX? What does it all mean? Should I care?
In July 2020, Microsoft announced they will discontinue Windows builds of PHP. PHP is a programming language that is used by almost 80% of all websites, including a few you might recognize like Facebook, Yahoo, Zoom, WordPress and CaseAware.
Microsoft hasn't shared a motive behind their announcement, however, a majority of PHP programs are run on LINUX servers so one could reason it is because it is no longer worth their efforts to continue to support PHP programming. In an abundance of caution, we want to inform you there may be an impact on you if you are running CaseAware on a Windows server.
If you are running a server that is Windows then Microsoft will no longer support or provide security patching for PHP at the end of 7.4 lifecycle, scheduled for November 6, 2022. As CaseAware moves to PHP version 8.0 and beyond, your version of CaseAware cannot be supported with continuous upgrades on a Windows server beyond November 2022.

Running Business Critical software is more than just buying a server. With a360inc’s managed solutions, you get more including automatic redundancy at every level which means your application, your data and your business are protected. With a managed platform solution, you'll have a "Primary Server", the server which runs your applications when things are normal. You'll also get a “DR server” that protects you against all manner of business disrupting events, from power outages, telecommunication systems failures, natural disasters to events like 9-11. Beyond that, you'll have a 3rd copy of your data that is stored in secure facilities, outside of the normal production data center facilities. This protects you, not only against an unthinkable national disaster, but also keeps your data safe from emerging threats such as Ransomeware. All this protection keeps you in business, when others may succumb to events that prevent them from running their applications.
It's dark inside
Running an application seems simple at the surface. However, managing applications at an enterprise-level brings with it a need to employ highly advanced infrastructure to make sure the application is available when YOU need it. With a360inc’s advanced managed platform, we manage hardware and supporting infrastructure that guarantees 99.99% uptime, meaning your application is available when you need to use it. Even if your office is in the middle of the biggest utility outage of the century. Grab a mobile device running CaseAware Mobile and you’ll be able to access and use your case management software. You don’t have to worry about installing generators, and/or battery banks, or contracting with vendors to provide backup utility services. You aren’t tied to facilities that have enough space and utility capacity to support running a small data center. We’ve taken care of that. We’re here, and the lights are on.
Elasticity, not just for briefs anymore
How do you forecast the growth of your server environment? What happens if you acquire other firms? How about if you need to divest? We know so you don't have to worry about knowing. Building your own infrastructure to support Business Critical applications ties you to the assets. You invest in hardware that made the most sense at the time. What happens when it no longer makes sense? Re-invest, abandon, sell? Utilizing a360inc’s managed platform you don’t have to worry about any of that. We manage the assets, you pay for what you use. That’s it. Double your case load? We’ve got you covered.
Security is the first thought
For business owners and managers, doing business is the first priority. We get that. We support that and it's why we’ve made security our first thought.
